Ninghang Batik’s Story

All Miao family women following ancestral footsteps are able to use a wax knife to draw and turn clothes a dazzling blue in mountain waters. One woman from outside the mountains is named Manli Ning. During the 2008 financial crisis, Manli’s business went bankrupt and she carried this failure on her back to Danzhai, Guizhou. She convinced some Miao women who has never left the remote mountains to follow her and change their life from poverty by sharing their folk craft. Now, there are 48 Miao craftspeople who are learning to read and write, and speak Mandarin, and have travelled to Beijing, Shenzhen, and even international fashion runways.

This group of women from the mountains and Manli Ning created with love the platform Ninghang Batik to preserve this beautiful cultural heritage folk art and bring it into the modern world. They have defended this cultural legacy for 15 years, waiting for your love and appreciation.

Manli Ning’s Story

Manli Ning is from Anhui, China. Fifteen years ago she partnered together with a group of Miao women to find a path out of poverty and preserve a cultural legacy. This platform has become the undertaking and responsibility that she has taken on and received numerous awards for model labor and womens’ leadership.

How to get here

From Guiyang Airport:
1. It is 106 km from the airport, about 1 hour and 50 minutes driving. If you get a taxi, about 500rmb.
2. You can also first take a cab from the Guiyang airport to Guiyang North Station, then take the high speed train from Guiyang North Station to Kaili South Station (~58.5rmb). From there you can get a taxi to Ninghang Batik (45 minutes)
3. Bus from Guiyang Long Distance Bus Station to Danzhai Long Distance Bus Station is once a day at 2:30pm (70rmb)From Sandu County Station (high speed train station):
4. 21 km away, about 30 minutes driving, taxi is ~55rmb
5. Bus, downstairs you can ask about the bus form Sandu to Danzhai Bus Station (10rmb), from the Danzhai Bus Station you can take a taxi to Ninghang BatikFrom Kaili South Railway Station:
